Understanding Pressure Units: Pascal and Torr

In the field of process engineering, pressure measurement is fundamental to system design and safety. The Pascal (Pa) is the SI derived unit of pressure, defined as one newton per square meter (\(1 \text{ Pa} = 1 \text{ N/m}^2\)). It is the standard unit used in most scientific and industrial calculations.

The Torr (Torr), named after Evangelista Torricelli, is a non-SI unit of pressure defined as exactly \(\frac{1}{760}\) of a standard atmosphere. One Torr is approximately equal to one millimeter of mercury (mmHg). This unit is predominantly used in vacuum engineering and high-vacuum systems.
